It’s important to know your options for pain relief during labor! I have seen a lot of moms that have the intention of going natural but have never felt labor pains before, never educated themselves on pain options, and now they aren’t sure what to do!! They can’t “take the pain” anymore but are having a hard time at the moment with making a decision about IV pain medications or an epidural.
IV pain medications do cross the placenta barrier and therefore do cross over to the baby. Epidurals do NOT cross over the placenta barrier and therefore do NOT go to baby!
It is important to any questions you may have about pain medications or epidurals to your nurses, doctors, and/or nurse midwife!
